Black Cat
Black Cat
As I look back
He was my favourite cat
Our friendship lasted for several years
Drinking made me mad
Cut out the eye of the cat
Possessed by the fury of the demon
Couldn’t bear to see
Hung it to a tree
Aware of the terrible sin
A fire followed my act
A white figure of the cat!
And a rope about the animals neck
Tamen demens et me ipsum
Non sum ego ne sommare
I am not mad yet
And very surely I do not dream
I am not mad yet
I am not mad
After drinking and a spat,
brought home another cat
The very creature of which I was in search
Black with a splotch of white,
looking like the other, quite
Deprived of one of its eyes
But the thought of sin,
let the evil win
Evil thoughts became my soul intimates
Tamen demens et me ipsum
Non sum ego ne sommare
I am not mad yet
And very surely I do not dream
I am not mad yet
I am not mad
List, O list! - so soft and low
Lovers’s voice to night shall flow
Scarce awake, thy soul shall deem
Words, the music of a dream
While no single sound too rude
Upon thy slumber shall intrude
Thoughts, our souls - O god above!
In every deed shall mingle, love (hate, evil)
Batter the cat to dead?
Buried the axe in her head!
Displaced the bricks - and inserted the corpse
Tamen demens et me ipsum
Non sum ego ne sommare
Tamen demens et me ipsum
Non sum ego ne sommare
